Lalita Sahasranama meanings per name

731. Priyaṃkarī

Meaning – Priyaṃkarī is the bliss that results from developing endless love (bhakti, devotion) towards the Divinity. The Divine Mother is this bliss.

732. Nāma-pārāyaṇa-prītā

Meaning – She is exceedingly pleased when Divine names are recited (nama-parayana).

In this Kali Yuga mere recitation of divine names grants immense merit.

733. Nandi-vidyā

Meaning – She manifests as ‘Nandi vidya’- the scripture that deals with merger/ absorption into Her.

Absorption/ merger of the mind is known as layā. The end point of relentless nama japa (recitation of divine names) and music rendition (nāda) is the merger of the mind. Such dissolution showers true bliss.

Nandi symbolizes merger (layā). Nandi plays the Mridamgam (percussion) instrument when his master Lord Shiva performs the dance of bliss (tāndava). Nandi is the master of this scripture on merger (Laya shāstra).

734. Naṭeśvarī

Meaning – She is the energy of Lord Nateshwara (Natarāja, Shiva) who is performing the dance of bliss (tāndava).

Shiva’s dance is known as tāndava; Her dance is called lāsya. This is a merger of tāndava and lāsya.

735. Mithyā-jagadadhiṣṭānā

Meaning – She is the cause and refuge for this illusory universe (mithya-jagat).

The world that we are seeing is illusory. What does not exist appears real. That is why, what appears as good to one, seems poisonous for another. The world appears as we see it. She is the basis for this entire illusory world.

736. Muktidā

Meaning – She relieves the true devotee from the bondages and grants him liberation (mukti).

Her devotees are rewarded with all the four Dharma, Artha, Kāma moksha.

737. Mukti-rūpiṇī

Meaning – Liberation (mukti) is also Her form (roopa).

738. Lāsya-priyā

Meaning – She is very fond of dance. Dance performed by Divine Mother is known as lāsya.

739. Laya karī

Meaning – Due to Her grace, the devotee is able to merge (laya) his mind into that infinite. She is the cause for it.

Rhythm is the basis for all laya. Heartbeat is also rhythmic. Music is rhythmic. Nandi vidya declares that such rhythm leads towards merger into that infinite.

740. Lajjā

Meaning – Modesty is her greatest jewel.

In the hymn Chandi Saptashati, the Divine Mother is praised as-

Yā devī sarva bhuteshu lajjā rupena samsthithā

Despite the fact that She is the energy that is the cause for this entire creation; for its sustenance and its absorption and that She is the support for everything, She is very modest. Modesty is a trait that every human should learn from Her.
